Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
