However, the Miami team were not distracted as they put up 86 opening half points to lead Memphis by thirty-nine after two quarters, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37 year existence.

Adebayo led the way with 24 scores and later stated Rozier had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Full support," Adebayo said. "We are with him all the way. That's our brother ultimately."

Heat coach Spoelstra added: "Terry is somebody who is important to everyone. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and our care for him as he goes through the situation."

The Trail Blazers also won their initial match after the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the team to a decisive 139-119 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Addressing the arrests for the first time, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he told Amazon Prime. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver further said an NBA investigation into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated that situation and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.

"And 30 months after, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in justice to Terry.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
