Suspected Harasser Inquired: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female charged with stalking Kate McCann apparently recorded her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the court was told communication data and data recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test during the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is among the most widely reported investigations and remains unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a life here in Poland, I just want to know," she added.
The panel was informed that by means of emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a attempt to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the data, told the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."
That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court heard the co-defendant developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' home in that area in last December.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated using communication app to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the months preceding the appearance to that location, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two accused, in November 2024, discussing attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their house, the defendant dispatched a text which expressed: "We're currently sitting outside the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark similar to private investigators. I wanted to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
