'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Await Answers After Alpine Blaze
The relatives of teens unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a establishment in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and requesting any details about their family members online.
The blaze ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed footage depict the roof structure catching alight as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Authorities have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. Authorities stated on Friday that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts continuing to locate the final individuals.
In the interim, loved ones have been posting on social media to plead for any news about their friends who were at the bar that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near the city, informed a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but could not find him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a horror. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she said.
She explained that some of his peers had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its young people have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who represented passion and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has indicated that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the bar.
